On September 25th, we celebrate one-hit wonder day. You know, those songs that become really popular and then you never hear from the artist(s) again or they don’t have a hit as big as that one.
Well, we along with one of our favorite DJs in the Kansas City area, Johnny Quest (Instagram YourKCDJ) have come up with your top 10 one hit wonders to play at your wedding.
All of the following will definitely get your guests out of their seats and moving their feet. Some on and off beat! No matter, they will have fun and your wedding reception will be the talk for time to come.

- Tag Team – Whoomp There it is (1993)
Tag Team has recently reignited the popularity of the famous song by being featured in one of the latest Geico commercial.
- Mark Morrison – Return of The Mack (1995)
Don’t know about you but when you hear the call of the opening line “oooooooohhhhh …come on” it’s not only a directive to get on the dance floor but time meet your dance partner or group.
- Cyndi Lauper – Girls Just Wanna Have Fun (1983)
No matter what sort of lady you are. This is a song that we all bellow out as loud as we can to sing along with our sister Cyndi. “The phone rings in the middle of the night MY FATHER YELLS…WHAT YOU GONNA DO WITH YOUR LIFE?”.
- Montell Jordan – This Is How We Do It (1994)
Released in 1995, this was the party where all the brothers could hit the floor and practice their stroll. Mr. Montell helped introduce the public to the step and slide with a little shimmy as he perfected as being one of the members of the fraternity Kappa Alpha Psi, Inc.
- Los Del Rio – Macarena (1992)
Ranked by VH1 as the #1 Greatest One Hit Wonder, Macarea as we know it was remixed with the Bayside Boys. This is one of the more popular line dance, group songs that everyone knows that seems to be inspired by the hokey pokey. Left hand out, right hand out left palm up, right palm up….
- Sir Mix A Lot – Baby Got Back (1991)
“Oh, my God Becky! Look at her butt it’s so big!” Apparently this is the song that inspired the increase in BBL! Cause now even Becky got back! So “Then turn around, stick it out. Even white boys got to shout, Baby got back”.
- Otis Day and the Knights – Shout (1978)
“Now wait a minute” this song was originally released by the fictitious band for the Toga Party scene in Animal House. It quickly became a crowd favorite. This song recorded by Lloyd Willams and lip synced by actor DeWayne Jessie. Thank you for this favorite that still makes us want to “Shout” in celebration!
- Cupid – Cupid Shuffle (2007)
To the left, to the left to the left….no honey your other left. Just about everyone knows how to do the Cupid Shuffle. This was one of the line dances that brought all the family and their +1s to the dance floor. Now kick….
- V.I.C. – Wobble (2007)
“All the shawtys in the club, let me see you just” was the call to the floor for this popular anthem! According to linedancequeen.com “The line dance was originally called Nasty Girl and was to a different song. It originated out of Philadelphia and was choreographed by “Butterball’s Posse” w/ the late Dave Bush, Jr (Godfather of Line Dance) in the mid 90s. “ When the song was released, there wasn’t a more perfect place for this dance to land and shoot both to mainstream popularity.
10. Cha Cha Slide – D.J. Casper (1999)
Well technically it is not a one hit wonder, since there is a part two to the song. However, it never became as popular as part one, but it is still fun. This song was originally written for a fitness workout routine. No wonder everyone leaves the dance floor sweating!
